Carol is the founder and President of BioInfoStrategies, a Northern California based consulting firm that develops strategies and establishes licenses and research partnerships for small/medium sized life sciences/healthcare companies. She is also the life sciences/healthcare expert for NewCap Partners, Inc., a middle-market-focused private investment bank where she helps clients to identify partner companies for M&A, strategic business alliances, and corporate equity investments. Previously, she served as the Director of Healthcare for Frost & Sullivan. Before moving to Silicon Valley, Carol enjoyed a multi-functional (research, marketing, business development) career with The Dow Chemical Company where her last role was Life Sciences Program Manager in the Corporate Ventures Group. Her broad industry experience includes pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices/equipment, mobile/IT health, regenerative medicine, instruments/reagents, agriculture, and the biology-related segments of Cleantech and industrial markets. Recently, her efforts have focused on work with companies in the US, China, Japan, and Canada. Carol has a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan Medical School and an AB in Biology from Bryn Mawr College.
Kenneth Epstein, General Partner, Epstein & Associates, LLC and Principal, NewCap Partners, Inc. (FINRA Registered M&A Investment Banker) Materials, Cleantech/Water, Life Sciences/Healthcare, and Energy
Kenneth Epstein is a co-founder of Epstein & Associates, LLC, a Northern California based consulting firm started in 1995 and specializing in helping companies develop growth strategies and business plans, understanding of and positioning in global markets, and formation of global strategic alliances. Ken is also a registered principal at NewCap Partners, Inc. and has been actively involved in US and global M&A, strategic partnerships/JV, and financings since 1997. Ken specializes in materials (resins, additives, specialty chemicals, ceramics, fibers, composites), materials manufacturing into parts (3D, extrusion, injection molding, films), Life Sciences/Healthcare, Cleantech (water, energy storage, fuel cells, solar, wind), and Energy M&A, Strategic Alliances, and Financing. Ken started his global, multi-functional career with the Dow Chemical Company. After several years in R&D and Sales, he spent the majority of his Dow career as a corporate venture manager investing in global companies and technologies in the material (specialty chemicals, films, coatings, ceramics, composites), energy (fuel cells, solar, lignite), water, and construction industries.
Ken holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, and an MBA in International Finance from the University of Michigan.
Stuart Henrickson, MBA, CFA, CMA, CFP
Stuart Henrickson is a native Winnipegger who has worked all over the world including Calgary, Toronto, London, Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, Riyadh and Dubai. He has worked in both corporate banking (CIBC and Chase Manhattan) and investment banking (Merrill Lynch and National Bank of Abu Dhabi) and has worked on over $17 billion in transactions over his career, including winning two international Deals of the Year awards in 2007.
Stuart received his B.Comm. from the University of Manitoba, his MBA from the University of Calgary, and has earned CFA, CMA and CFP designations. Stuart is currently the I.H Asper Executive Director for Entrepreneurship at the Asper School of Business, and is Chief Executive Officer of Red Leaf Capital Corp., a Winnipeg-based firm providing advisory, mergers and acquisition, and capital raising services for Canadian-based start-ups and SME’s.
Stewart is an entrepreneur and former owner of Perth’s Drycleaners, a successful Canadian commercial launderer and textile treatment business. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from the University of Manitoba. Stewart sold his business in 2012, and has since turned his attention to managing his real estate holdings and providing consulting services to small and medium-sized enterprises. He is an avid golfer, dividing his time between Winnipeg and Arizona.
Song Liu, PhD, Scientific Advisor
Dr. Song Liu, PhD, is the inventor of the world-changing technical breakthrough that Exigence was founded to bring to market. Dr. Liu is the Director of the Medical Textile Surface Engineering Laboratory at the University of Manitoba and is internationally recognized as an expert in his field with over a decade of experience researching surface modification and antimicrobial functionalization of materials. As Exigence’s Chief Scientist he regularly reviews, challenges and advises the technical direction and scientific progress of the development team, and contributes innovative solutions to product performance requirements identified by the business development team.
Javier Nudler, MBA, Exigence Co-Founder
Javier has over 25 years experience in sales and logistics as an entrepreneur and intrapreneur. He launched several companies in his native Argentina, traveled extensively over North America and Asia sourcing products and worked as VP and Director of Sales in Canada, managing all aspects of sales and product launch. Javier now owns his own Sales company helping manufacturers grow their business in Canada.
Geoff Besko, Principal, Hilltop Business Solutions
Geoff has broad experience as a business executive, transformational leader, innovator, enterprise architect, change agent, and educator. He is a seasoned executive leader and consultant with strong experience leading the growth and transformation of organizations to help them achieve or exceed their missions. For the past 15 years, Geoff has been a transformational leader for multiple organizations: Geoff led the organizational change program to create a shared services IT organization for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority; he grew Seccuris as President and CEO, culminating in the merger of Seccuris with Above Security and acquisition by Hitachi Systems. Geoff was Chief Commercial Officer for Above Security developing joint ventures and partnerships with other Hitachi companies while continuing to work directly with strategic clients. Recently, Geoff formed Hilltop Business Solutions to focus on business transformation, innovation, enterprise architecture, and strategy consulting services for large and mid-sized organizations. He has broad industry experience including Healthcare; Financial Services; Utilities, Oil and Gas; Telecommunications; Governments; Law Enforcement; and Chemical industries. He has worked with clients nationally, and at a global level, across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Geoff holds a BA (Honours) and an MBA (Finance), in addition to numerous industry certifications.
