Zach Wolff, Co-founder, CEO
Zach Wolff is the Co-founder, CEO and Board Director of Exigence Technologies Inc. and Exigence Technologies UK Ltd. Mr. Wolff is a Professional Engineer who holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba, with a concentration in aerospace materials and a minor in business management. He completed his MBA at the Asper School of Business in 2017.
Prior to founding Exigence, Mr. Wolff began his career in R&D with The Boeing Company, processing composite aerospace components. During his time in this position, he was trained in many aspects of product development, including virtual design, material science prototyping, manufacturing process development and operational implementation. He was eventually assigned to a unique troubleshooting team tasked with identifying opportunities to re-engineer products and processes for cost savings and improvements.
This combination of experiences equipped Mr. Wolff to launch Exigence Technologies in 2014. Since the founding of the Company, he has driven a successful growth strategy and married this with a product development plan, accumulating technical expertise in Exigence’s domain and becoming a co-inventor on several new patents. Mr. Wolff leads Exigence’s financial matters, intellectual property management, talent recruiting, team building and research partnership efforts.
Eric Shumka is a member of both the Chartered Accountants of Manitoba and the Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (honors) degree from the University of Manitoba. Eric’s areas of expertise include a focus on private companies and providing accounting, audit, and tax planning, as well as business advisory services. His industry expertise includes manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail, and professional services. Together, this set of experiences provide strong financial planning and risk management capabilities to Exigence Technologies.
Paul Cordfunke, Vice President Sales
Paul is responsible for the business development, promotion and technology commercialization. Paul is particularly engaged in developing new partnerships for commercialization of the companies’ Horizon 2020-related product development.
Paul Cordfunke has over 20 years of experience in technical B2B sales, marketing, building value propositions & sales channels, and strategy. Prior to joining Exigence Technologies Paul held various regional and global commercial and strategic positions at companies such as Corbion.
Over the last 10 years Paul has successfully expanded existing businesses into new markets and built markets for new products in a chemical B2B environment. Paul holds a MSc. in polymer science and technology from Delft University in the Netherlands.
Katherine Devine, Vice President Product
Katherine Devine is the Vice President, Product, of Exigence Technologies Inc. A behavioral scientist whose decades of success in market research and new product development are underpinned by professional and academic training, Katherine is accredited as a Product Development Professional by the Product Development Management Association, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and holds a QNET certificate in Management Development specializing in project management, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science, and a Master’s in Public Administration.
Before joining Exigence, Katherine founded and for 20 years operated an award-winning market research firm, kiSquared. As a business owner, team builder and leader, problem-solver (for her clients’ organizations and her own), products manager, business advisor, and analyst, Katherine is dedicated to applying her expertise in new processes, KPIs, market knowledge, and innovative solutions to help companies grow in financial strength and capitalize on market opportunities.
With experience across varied industry sectors including manufacturing, materials science, agriculture, ICT, tourism, banking, insurance and education, Katherine now leads Exigence’s innovation management program to ensure effective and timely market entry for our innovations. This includes designing and implementing a unique products management process that combines core and complementary elements of Agile, Stage Gate, Lean Canvas, UX Design, and Lean systems.
Marcelo Dubiel Director, Technology
Marcelo is a Professional Engineer with a knack for solving complex problems with minimal resources. He has experience across a variety of engineering disciplines including material science, manufacturing, design, project management and product development.
He started his engineering career in the aerospace sector focusing on material science, while working his regular day job Marcelo also took on contract work in the evening to expand his knowledge and experience in various engineering disciplines. His experience in the aerospace sector bridges commercial and military products, including new product introduction and site qualification. In Exigence Technologies he has been involved in the core technical development over the last several years and is listed on several of the company’s patents. Marcelo is a self starter with a mind for approaching business goals with the realities of science and engineering.
Dan Polonenko, Director, Exigence Technologies Board of Directors
Dan Polonenko, PhD, joined co-founders Sheri Governo and Zach Wolff as Director with the Exigence Technologies Board of Directors in 2017. Dan is a principal and patent agent in Gowling WLG’s Calgary office, and has been involved with the Exigence intellectual property portfolio since the company’s inception. Dan has over 20 years’ experience in the Canadian biotech industry at the senior management, corporate executive and Board of Director level, including seven years as Vice President and Director of Operations for two biotechnology companies.
Dan has a global reputation as a leading patent practitioner and strategist. Dan has been listed in both the IAM Patent 1000 – World’s Leading Patent Practitioners (2015-2017), and the IAM Strategy 300 – World’s Leading IP Strategists 2015 & 2016. Dan also received the 2016 Client Choice Award from the International Law Organization/Lexology as a preferred patent service provider in Alberta. He is a registered patent agent in Canada and the United States, where his patent practice involves drafting and prosecution in the fields of life sciences, chemistry, environmental technologies, process engineering, and mechanical inventions. Additionally, Dan provides business-focused strategic and tactical intellectual property (IP) services.
Dan holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo. During his scientific and business careers, Dan has co-authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications, several book chapters and in addition, was co-inventor of six issued patent families.
