Zach Wolff, Co-founder, CEO
Zach Wolff is the Co-founder, CEO and Board Director of Exigence Technologies Inc. and Exigence Technologies UK Ltd. Mr. Wolff is a Professional Engineer who holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba, with a concentration in aerospace materials and a minor in business management. He completed his MBA at the Asper School of Business in 2017.
Prior to founding Exigence, Mr. Wolff began his career in R&D with The Boeing Company, processing composite aerospace components. During his time in this position, he was trained in many aspects of product development, including virtual design, material science prototyping, manufacturing process development and operational implementation. He was eventually assigned to a unique troubleshooting team tasked with identifying opportunities to re-engineer products and processes for cost savings and improvements.
This combination of experiences equipped Mr. Wolff to launch Exigence Technologies in 2014. Since the founding of the Company, he has driven a successful growth strategy and married this with a product development plan, accumulating technical expertise in Exigence’s domain and becoming a co-inventor on several new patents. Mr. Wolff leads Exigence’s financial matters, intellectual property management, talent recruiting, team building and research partnership efforts.
Sheri Governo, Co-founder, VP Business Development & Administration
Sheri Governo is co-founder, Vice-President, Acting Chair of the Board of Exigence Technologies Inc. and Director of Exigence Technologies UK Ltd. Ms. Governo has a Bachelor of Music (History) degree from the University of Manitoba, an MBA from the Asper School of Business and is a Registered Respiratory Therapist by profession. Prior to co-founding Exigence Ms. Governo was Manager of Patient Care for a 24-bed medical/surgical inpatient unit and large ambulatory care clinic at a 700-bed tertiary care hospital.
Ms. Governo has spoken at investor events across Canada and the U.S.A. and has represented Exigence as a presenter at the Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She was the company delegate to the Canadian Technology Accelerator Virtual CleanTech Program (New York/San Francisco) in 2015, and was among 30 global candidates to be receive the AACSB’s Influential Leader award in 2016. As VP of Business Development & Administration, she is focused on external relationship building & new lead generation, marketing, administrative and HR processes, reporting and legal/contracts. She is an active partner with CEO Zach Wolff, her fellow co-founder, in setting the strategic direction and building the company.
Eric Shumka, Chief Financial Officer
Eric Shumka is a member of both the Chartered Accountants of Manitoba and the Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (honors) degree from the University of Manitoba. Eric’s areas of expertise include a focus on private companies and providing accounting, audit, and tax planning, as well as business advisory services. His industry expertise includes manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail, and professional services. Together, this set of experiences provide strong financial planning and risk management capabilities to Exigence Technologies.
Nelson Barrett, Director of Research & Engineering
Nelson Barrett joined our team in 2016. Mr. Barrett brings to the Exigence a team a track record of diverse, multi-disciplinary, technical-oriented business leadership. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of Manitoba and also holds a post-graduate degree in Aerospace Vehicle Design Engineering from Cranfield University (UK).
Nelson completed a 20 year commission as an aerospace engineering officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Assignments included posting in aircraft modification design, fixed and rotary wing flight testing and evaluation, F/A-18 full scale fatigue testing, aerospace maintenance operations, and major capital project/procurement leadership assignments.
Joining civilian industry, Mr. Barrett completed 10 years with Standard Aero Ltd in increasingly senior leadership assignments culminating as Senior Vice President accountable for the Helicopter, Oil, Gas and Energy, and Component Repair business units. During his tenure, he was involved in new business generation, business turnaround, and several M&A activities. Since 2010, Nelson has held assignments in both consulting roles and permanent positions on business improvement including acquisition of small businesses, business improvement analyses and recommendations, and a three year tenure with Princess Auto in manufacturing and supply chain functions.
Dan Polonenko, Director, Exigence Technologies Board of Directors
Dan Polonenko, PhD, joined co-founders Sheri Governo and Zach Wolff as Director with the Exigence Technologies Board of Directors in 2017. Dan is a principal and patent agent in Gowling WLG’s Calgary office, and has been involved with the Exigence intellectual property portfolio since the company’s inception. Dan has over 20 years’ experience in the Canadian biotech industry at the senior management, corporate executive and Board of Director level, including seven years as Vice President and Director of Operations for two biotechnology companies.
Dan has a global reputation as a leading patent practitioner and strategist. Dan has been listed in both the IAM Patent 1000 – World’s Leading Patent Practitioners (2015-2017), and the IAM Strategy 300 – World’s Leading IP Strategists 2015 & 2016. Dan also received the 2016 Client Choice Award from the International Law Organization/Lexology as a preferred patent service provider in Alberta. He is a registered patent agent in Canada and the United States, where his patent practice involves drafting and prosecution in the fields of life sciences, chemistry, environmental technologies, process engineering, and mechanical inventions. Additionally, Dan provides business-focused strategic and tactical intellectual property (IP) services.
Dan holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo. During his scientific and business careers, Dan has co-authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications, several book chapters and in addition, was co-inventor of six issued patent families.
